Effective testing does not just happen.  It is necessary to have documented processes and plans on how to get the biggest bang for the buck.  Usable software does not just happen. It requires dedicated processes and repeatable test cases.  It is not the quantity of testing that is done that counts, but the quality of the testing.  Many test cases are repeatable and should be saved and reused.  This is particularly true in enhancements or bug fixes.  Develop a test plan template and reuse features and tests as opposed to reinventing them from scratch.

We never have enough time to do everything so prioritization is important.  We can’t test everything so what is required?  Work with the Business Analysts, Developers, and Clients to identify and ensure that what the client needs is what the client gets.  Improve project efficiency by developing traceability matrices.

Improve your current techniques and develop new skills and develop test plans that more closely reflect client’s needs.  Develop budget strategies to get the biggest return on investment.  Learn how to develop more applicable test scripts and test cases and design them to be reusable.  Make better use of available resources, such as budgets, people, equipment, time, etc. etc.  Testing like any other part of the project plan needs to be planned, executed, and managed.  More effective test planning will reduce the cost of development and maintenance which will result in a better product and more satisfied customers.
